MODELLING BUCKLES AND STRAPS

To make the buckle, choose a screen of photo-etched mesh of suitable dimensions. The sample featured here is from Eduard.

Begin by removing a square from the mesh with a scalpel blade.
Form the buckle by carefully filing the corners against a needle file.
To make the straps, cut strips of paper from recycled 3M Post-it notes.
Affix the buckle to the paper strap with Cyanoacrylate adhesive (Super Glue).
To create the bulging strap in the center of the buckle, take a section from the same strip of paper that's used for the strap and carefully attach it to one end of the buckle's inside.
Use a scalpel blade to form the bulge and trim off the excess strip.
Stiffen the paper with oil/lacquer-based Gloss varnish. When the varnish has set, sand lightly with a grit-400 sandpaper to remove any paper fibers present.
The completed result.
